Realtors And Real Estate Agents; What’s The Difference?

by Cal Riverton on January 27, 2012

If you have ever known anyone that has bought or sold a home, you’ve likely heard them say “I hired a Realtor.” But is that truly what they have hired, or did they hire a real estate agent? There are tons more real estate agents than there are Realtors, and folks don’t often seem to know that, yes, there’s a difference between the two. What is this difference, you ask?

While it is true that both a Realtor and a real estate agent are certified to help clients buy and sell places this does not mean they’re the exact same thing. A Realtor is an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, while a real estate agent is not. The Realtor follows the Realtor Code of Ethics, and real estate agents do not.

This is a really exactly enforced code, and any Realtor discovered to be going against the code can be stripped of their title as Realtor and kicked out of the National Association of Realtors. A construction company that has Realtors, rather than just real estate agents, is Utah home builders . Lots of other firms have Realtors, also, and you should actually look for a Realtor, in place of a real estate agent, when you need to purchase or sell a home.

While the code of ethics can’t totally guarantee that each Realtor will treat you better or do a better job than a real estate agent could, the fact that they are dedicated enough to go that extra step to become a Realtor shows that they actually enjoy what they are doing, and that is great.

Hiring Realtors rather than real estate agents often does save lots of hassle, but it may also sometimes be pricier. Utah builders isn’t incredibly expensive, but many places who offer the services of Realtors are far more pricey than those with just regular real estate agents.
